Leelanau Talk is a collection of students and alumni of The Leelanau School that are concerned about the school’s direction and practices. We help insure transparency in school policies, hold the school accountable to community members, and provide a safe place for student speech. We work to:
- Directly and aggressively confront censorship on campus
- End the oppressive culture that is commonplace at Leelanau
- Educate students and staff about their rights
- Increase awareness in members of the public about life at Leelanau
- Hold school administration and staff members accountable for their actions and words
- Provide a safe place for students and staff to speak
- Emphasize direct action over appeals to administrators
- Hold Leelanau to their obligations as a non-profit organization
- Obtain and disseminate information on Leelanau, especially when it would be of use to students, potential donors, parents, or the media.
- Assist those who have been unfairly targeted by administrators and serve as an advocate.
